New Look
After 11 years of running Dance Events we felt it was time to atleast make ourselves look nice for the occassion. Minus18 went through a complete redesign, from the logo, website, even our events got a facelift. The redesign took a number of months behind the scenes. Lots of voting, and lots of discussion on what direction we wanted to take. Since the redesign, the Minus18 website attracts around 150,000+ pageviews every month.
Launch of Minus+
Minus+ is Minus18's fortnightly Social events, away from the nightclub enviornment. at the beginning of 2009 we launched our first event, with the tour of the JOY 94.9 radio studios. We had a ton of other events, like iceskating, magazine workshops and movie afternoons. Minus+ will be continuing in 2010 with a whole new range of events.
MinusTV
A bunch of the crew involved in Minus18 felt that there wasn't enough gay media aimed specifically at young people. Thus, MinusTV was born. Every few weeks, a new video relating to Minus18, youth, or just general topics is released. While the crew took a break at the end of 2009, they'll be back in 2010 bigger than ever.
DragSchool
When we were approached by Rei with the idea of dragschool, we were a bit hesitant at fiirst, but once the signup sheets were overflowing with your names wanting to learn the ins and outs of drag, sexual, and gender identity, we knew the workshops were going to go off. We'll be running another dragschool in 2010 so make sure you keep your eye out!
Safe Sex campaign
When the Australian Government launched their safe-sex youth campaign earlier this year, we were pretty pissed that it didn't event mention any information for same sex attracted people! So rather than write an angry letter, for though we'd 1 up them with our own resources and material, which we launched at our December White Party. The website for the campaign will launch early 2010 so keep an eye out for it!
New Volunteers!
In 2009, we've had a HUGE influx of people wanting to help us out, and we're going to need more in 2010! If you think you have the drive to create kickarse youth events, or have a mad skill or idea you think we'd be interested in, make sure you apply to become a Minus18 Volunteer today!
