Blake Connell


Blake (he/him) is the Lead of the People & Culture Subcommittee on the Minus18 Board.

Blake holds a Bachelor of Arts, a Diploma of Languages (French) and a Juris Doctor from the University of Melbourne. He is a solicitor at global law firm Herbert Smith Freehills working with clients across the technology, media and telecommunications sectors. In this role, he works on large-scale IT procurement contracts and cross border technology focused deals. Blake has a particular focus on helping clients find technology-based solutions to their legal problems.  

Within the LGBTIQA+ space, Blake is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Out For Australia, a national NFP which seeks to provide visible role models, mentors, content and targeted support to aspiring LGBTIQA+ professionals and to strengthen the sense of community among professionals and students, most notably through its 100% free and completely online mentoring program for LGBTIQA+ people and their allies. Blake is also co-chair of his office’s pride network, a position which gives him the precious opportunity to shape policy around LGBTIQA+ inclusion at work. 

Blake is passionate about reducing the barriers for LGBTIQA+ people through targeted, impactful advocacy and programs.
