LGBTQIA+ Education Presenter (Schools)
About this Position
The LGBTQIA+ Education Presenters at Minus18 drive inclusion within the broader community, delivering LGBTQIA+ education workshops and training that are a mix of facilitation, presentation and improvisation.
In this role, you’ll be delivering sessions to a variety of audiences with a focus on students, teachers and youth groups, making LGBTQIA+ inclusion accessible to everyone in a positive, nonjudgmental space. You'll also be required to support delivering sessions to community organisations and corporate environments as required.
Some of our recent audiences have included Bonds, Levis, Canva and the National Theatre Melbourne.
Our Workshops have been described as “participating in your favourite podcast”, so even though they are pre-scripted, you’ll think on your feet, react to the audience’s participation and navigate questions with patience and positivity. We’ll also coach you to write and share your personal narrative on LGBTQIA+ identity with openness and vulnerability, inspiring others to connect with the real-world application of the content.
These sessions are 30 minutes to three hours long, delivered digitally via Zoom, and also in-person. They include content such as:
- Introduction to LGBTQIA+ Inclusion
- Trans and Gender Diversity
- LGBTQIA+ Allyship
- Personal Narrative Keynote presentation.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this role is a vibrant and engaging public speaker with confidence performing to an audience (digitally or in person). A strong experience and understanding of LGBTQIA+ identity will support this role, however this is an area you will receive training in.
This role works as part of the Education Team. When not presenting, you will support the refinement of LGBTQIA+ content, collect evaluation information and participate in team planning and development to help us ensure Minus18 Workshops and Training sessions continue to be some of the most highly regarded available.
