Applications to join the next Young Leaders Program are officially open! Now in it's fourth year, we're ready to welcome another cohort for an exciting program all about developing leadership skills and community building.
What is the Young Leaders program?
It's a 10-month journey from October 2024 to August 2025, where a group of 18 to 25-year-olds will participate in fortnightly sessions aimed at building confidence, developing skills, and gaining valuable experience. They'll play a key role in our life-affirming events, including the Melbourne Queer Formal, and inspire the next generation of LGBTQIA+ youth.
We’re looking for 20 enthusiastic young leaders to take part in our Melbourne-based program.

About Minus18
Minus18 is Australia’s charity improving the lives of LGBTQIA+ youth. We support LGBTQIA+ young people through events and digital platforms, and provide fee for service LGBTQIA+ inclusion training to schools, businesses and community organisations.
Since 2011 over 100,000 young people have engaged in these services across Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide, and millions more via digital platforms.

About the Program
Each session, or 'QLAB,' will run for two hours every fortnight on Tuesdays (generally 5pm until 7pm), with occasional weekend availability required for Minus18 events. To ensure Young Leaders fully benefit from the program, an 85% attendance rate is required for graduation.
The Program aims to:
- Improve connection to the LGBTQIA+ community
- Increase confidence as a leader
- Strengthen professional and personal development
- Increase confidence in employability
- Progress career or educational pathways
QLABS will be hosted at the Victorian Pride Centre in St Kilda, with some QLABS being delivered online. The program will also include some engagement at Minus18’s Melbourne-based youth events, some of which will be on the weekends.
