This Pride Month, Minus18 is dedicating every single donation to something very special: growing the impact and reach of Queer Formal® to a new location in 2027.

Every single donation made during June 2026 will be dedicated to taking our flagship event for LGBTQIA+ teens to a new city. Not just as one-off event, but as an annual part of our events calendar, for years to come.

It takes a village to create an event like Queer Formal®, and this is our first new location in over seven years. To grow Queer Formal safely, sustainably, and with the consideration the hundreds of attendees deserve, we’ve set a fundraising goal of $100,000.

It’s a big goal, but every single donation makes a huge difference.

  • Every $50 Donation – Supports a queer young person to attend for free
  • Every $250 Donation – Supports us to pay local emerging LGBTQIA+ performers and artists
  • Every $500 Donation – Supports 10 queer young people to attend for free, including those from regional and rural locations

Why Is Queer Formal Still Important?

Attending your school formal should be a rite of passage for all Australian teens. But despite how far we’ve come, we still hear from thousands of queer young people every year that they aren’t able to attend.

They’re not allowed to bring a same-sex date. They aren’t supported to dress in the way that affirms their gender. Or they simply don’t feel safe enough to attend.

Queer Formal is a magical, life-affirming space that supports and celebrates every LGBTQIA+ young person. It’s a joyous night of dancing, drag, and new friends. There’s something for everyone, from the dance floor to activities, from friendship bingo to a quiet space.

And every single ticket is free, always.

What Our Attendees Say

"A lot of people took photos with me and I made new friends. I also made a keychain. The drag queens and kings were amazing. They were so lovely and the music was so much fun. The youth workers helped me and the team helped me a lot as well. It was the best time of my life."

"Simply being there with my best friend was my highlight, it was so awesome and all I felt was love and acceptance by everyone around me!"

“It was my first time coming to an event like this… I was scared there were going to be hateful people and I’d be the odd one out. But as soon as I arrived I felt welcomed — the compliments on my hair and outfit were genuinely euphoric. My favourite parts were whenever the drags came up on stage. It was so amazing to see people being their most authentic selves, and for once I felt like I could too…”

Will You Help Us Take Queer Formal to a New Australian City in 2027?

We’re incredibly grateful for every single donation made, especially today – when we know the economic landscape is tough for so many. Every single donation, big or small, gets us closer to our goal.

Your donation will allow us to head to a city we’ve never been before. This will be our first new location in over seven years – to set up a Queer Formal®, establishing it for years to come.

Make a donation this June to help us reach this milestone. Thank you.

Minus18 is located on the land of the Yalakut Weelam Clan of the Boon Wurrung peoples, Australia’s First People and Traditional Custodians. We acknowledge their continued connection and contribution to land, water and community, and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. Sovereignty was never ceded; this always was, always will be, Aboriginal land.
