This guide was created by the Victorian Government's Department of Fairness Families and Housing for public sector employees. That said, it's a wonderful guide for ensuring you use inclusive language for LGBTIQA+ colleagues, clients and community regardless of your role or workplace.

In the words of DFFH: "The guide aims to support public sector entities and their employees. We all have a responsibility to make Victoria a safer, fairer and more inclusive place for everyone.

Language is very powerful. It can be discriminatory, harmful and limiting. It can also provide people with the ability to describe their identities and experiences. We should always be mindful how we communicate with other people."

Minus18 is located on the land of the Yalakut Weelam Clan of the Boon Wurrung peoples, Australia’s First People and Traditional Custodians. We acknowledge their continued connection and contribution to land, water and community, and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. Sovereignty was never ceded; this always was, always will be, Aboriginal land.
